You Can Help

Jesse needs good health to support his rehab efforts and your help to get him home someday.  From a special bed that prevents pressure ulcers (something he has been fighting for many weeks now) to home modifications to make our house handicap accessible to a wheelchair-enabled van, there are over $200,000 of expenses we will incur in the next few months alone that are not typically covered by health insurance.  Please give generously as we don’t have the funds to handle these necessary expenses ourselves and want to give Jesse the best quality of life possible.  We know it will lift his spirits and help him regain his fight if he hears about all the support he is getting from our family and friends.

Thank you, The Sternberg Family – Kathy, Dave, Elliot and Jesse

Two Donation Options:

1. Direct Gift to Jesse Sternberg Special Needs Trust

2. Online via HelpHopeLive.org

Thank you for wanting to help Jesse in his fight to regain his life and recover from his spinal cord injury.

You have two places and several choices for funding some of Jesse’s non-covered expenses.

Option 1 – Directly Fund Jesse’s Special Needs Trust

Advantages to Jesse:

  • Gets 100% of your donation
  • Gets complete control to apply your gift to his most immediate needs at the time

Disadvantage to you:

  • It is considered a gift, you would not get a charitable donation tax-deduction
  • If you want to gift him more than $14,000 in any one year, you may need to submit a form with the IRS.  Please check with your accountant or review this page on IRS.gov

Option 2 –Fund Jesse’s Recovery through his HelpHopeLive.org fundraising page

Advantages to Jesse:

  • Gets donations that he would not otherwise because they are from funds that must go to a 501 3c organization and not to a specific individual
  • Possibly gets larger donations from individuals who will benefit from the tax-deduction

Disadvantages to Jesse:

  • HelpHopeLive will take 4% or 7% of the funds for expenses (depending on your funding method)
  • There is no guarantee that all funds raised for Jesse will be distributed to Jesse
  • We must make requests for funds and satisfy their requirements to get checks from them

Advantage to you:

  • It is considered a charitable donation and may allow you to take the tax-deduction (not all people get that deduction, check with your accountant to see if you qualify.)

Payment Choices:

Option 1 – Directly Fund Jesse’s Special Needs Trust

  • 1A – Please make out a check to “The Jesse Sternberg Trust” and send it to our home address:

o   622 Sandpebble Dr, Schaumburg, IL 60193

  • 1B – Send funds via direct deposit or wire transfer to his Special Needs Trust account at Chase bank

o   Contact Dave Sternberg to let him know you prefer to wire the funds and he will send you the wire instructions

Option 2 – Fund Jesse’s Needs through HelpHopeLive

  • 2A – You can donate with a credit card, HHL takes 7% of the donation, the page is here
  • 2B – You can donate to Jesse’s HelpHopeLive (HHL) fund via check, HHL takes only 4%, and the check is made out to:

Final Note:

Regardless of how and which of Jesse’s funds you donate to, we want to thank you very much for your generosity, your emotional support and your prayers over these first few months of Jesse’s injury and rehabilitation.  Jesse’s inability to speak, eat, drink and completely breath on his own have been almost as depressing and debilitating as his paralysis.  Our top goal is for him to regain these basic functions that are the foundation of the quality of our lives.  Your generosity and financial support will allow Jesse to live the best possible life he can live, thank you again.
