Chapter 5 (1/7/14)

By | January 8, 2014

What a week.  Jesse’s surgery was over 8 hours.  We were with him at 7am on his way to surgery and in the surgical preop room, then with him at 8pm when they brought him to his ICU room where he was until today.  We were surprised by the size of the scar they left on his neck, not to mention the ones on his stomach and hip, but the one on his neck is going to make one heck of a conversation piece some day or he’ll incorporate a tattoo around it or he’ll have a plastic surgeon make it hardly noticeable, up to him, nothing he needs to decide on now.

So what has his week been like?  Painful.  Can’t move around, can’t be moved around, just lay there and heal while the doctors try to figure out how to make him “comfortable, but not pain-free”.  Funny, when we asked about pain before the surgery the doctor said they would make sure he was comfortable and they never added “but not pain free”.

We know we’re looking at two weeks or more before he can return to RIC, let’s hope and pray that his pain subsides and he can at least be truly comfortable while he waits to get back to rehab.
